FAQ

Let’s breathe in the fresh spring air.

What should we wear for spring photos?
Light, soft, and timeless is the goal. Think pastels, airy neutrals, and gentle textures—creams, soft blues, sage greens, blush tones, and light florals photograph beautifully against spring landscapes. Flowy dresses, linen, and subtle layers add movement and interest. Avoid loud logos or neon colors so the focus stays on your family. Need inspiration? Check out our Spring Style Guide Pinterest Board for outfit ideas for the whole family!

What if it rains or the weather’s bad?
Nebraska weather keeps us on our toes! I always keep a backup date or two on hand. If the weather looks questionable, I’ll be in touch 24–48 hours before to reschedule your session to the next available golden-hour day.

Can we bring pets?
Absolutely! Furry family members are always welcome—just bring a leash, some treats, and maybe a lint roller for later.

How many photos will we receive?
You’ll get access to a proofing gallery with the best images from our time together. From there, you’ll choose your included favorites, with the option to upgrade and purchase more if you’d like!

How long is the session?
Mini sessions are 15 minutes—short, sweet, and perfect for littles or quick seasonal updates. Full sessions run about 30–60 minutes and give us more time for movement, variety, and storytelling.

Can grandparents or extended family join?
Full sessions are ideal for multi-generational families. Just let me know ahead of time so we can plan for groupings and space accordingly. Check out The Family Stories Collections for more.

What’s the best time of day to shoot in spring?
Golden hour—always. That dreamy, soft light about an hour before sunset is what gives spring photos their airy glow. I’ll time your session for optimal lighting depending on the date and location.

Do you offer mini sessions or full sessions?
Yes to both! Spring Minis are offered on select dates and include a shorter session at a set location. Full sessions are more customizable with flexible dates and locations. Both come with beautifully edited images and the same storytelling care.

How do I book? Is a deposit required?
Booking is super easy! Just head to the booking page and select your preferred session type. A signed agreement and 25% retainer secures your spot. The remaining balance is due one week before your session.

THE SPRING COLOR SHIFT

from Buds to Blooms

Spring in Nebraska isn’t an overnight transformation—it’s a slow, beautiful awakening that stretches from late March through early May, with subtle seasonal shifts that depend on temperature, rainfall, and sunshine.

Late March: The First Signs of Spring
Early spring begins quietly. Prairie grass is still tan from winter, but fresh green shoots begin pushing through. Buds start forming on trees, and the light feels softer after the long winter months. It’s minimal and natural—perfect for airy portraits with soft tones and open landscapes.

Early to Mid-April: Spring Begins to Wake Up
Around April 5–15, the landscape begins to shift. Trees start budding, early blossoms appear, and patches of green spread across fields and parks. Warmer afternoons and longer daylight bring that fresh spring feeling. This is when Nebraska starts to feel alive again.

Mid to Late April: The Sweet Spot
Between April 15–30, spring really arrives. Trees fill in with soft green leaves, flowering trees bloom, and the landscape feels fresh and vibrant. The light is warm and golden, the air is comfortable, and everything feels new again. This is a beautiful time for spring portraits and golden-hour sessions.

Late April to Early May: Full Spring Growth
By late April into early May, the greens deepen and the landscape becomes lush. Prairie grasses grow taller, trees are fully leafed out, and the season feels bright and energetic. It’s perfect for natural, movement-filled sessions with vibrant color and warmth.

Timeframe | Seasonal Stage | Best For
Late March | Early spring awakening | Soft neutral landscapes, airy portraits
Apr 5–15 | Budding trees, fresh greens | Early spring sessions, mild weather
Apr 15–30 | Spring in bloom | Peak spring portraits, golden hour
Late Apr–Early May | Lush greens | Vibrant, full spring sessions
